Week 9: 7th Grade Water Filters

For the past few weeks, the 7th grade students in STEM have been learning about Environmental Engineering and why caring for the environment is so important. To culminate their unit, all students worked with groups to design and build a water filter. We have been discussing the importance of clean water and how not all people in the world have access to clean drinking water. Using some of their new skills, the students created plans for a water filter that they could reuse in their home if they needed to clean water before drinking it. The filters had to be reusable and the water had to be accessed easily. Above are the water filters from one class.
We are so impressed at the outcome of this project. Our goal was to make a lasting impact on our students in regard to Environmental Engineering. We hope that we piqued some interest in these topics and that our students learned something important through these activities!

6th graders this week were finishing their animal prosthetic devices and Biomechanical Engineering units. 8th graders completed their coding modules and built websites using their new skills.
We cannot believe how quickly the first marking period flew by! We are looking forward to the bigger and better projects to come. Our students have exceeded our expectations in our classrooms and we cannot wait to see what else they can accomplish!!
Stay tuned for more!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
