Weeks 10, 11, and 12: 6th Grade Biomimicry

Happy New Year!

Before Winter Break, Ms. Ricciardi's and Ms. Capobianco's 6th Grade classes embarked on their final STEM unit: Biomimicry! Students spent time researching and learning about biomimicry and nature inspired design before brainstorming ways in which they can engineer their very own biomimetic product. After completing the Ask and Imagine steps of the Engineering Design Process, students got into groups to share ideas with each other and choose one original project idea to focus on. Right before the break started, students had a chance to begin drawing their plans using skills learned throughout the course of the semester.

Using teamwork and group strategies, students had to create an orthographic projection, a neat and detailed drawing, complete a budget worksheet to choose materials, and come up with a name for their biomimicry invention!

It is a very exciting time in the STEM classrooms as these final projects are being produced. These 6th Graders sure are inventive, innovative, and inspirational!

Stay tuned later in the week to find out about the 7th Grade Solar Vehicle Challenge!
